Today, Alignable’s network of 7.8 million small business owners has chosen Lisa Assetta of CANcer Life Organizing™ as Carrollwood, Tampa, Florida’s 2023 Business Person Of The Year! Assetta was chosen as Carrollwood's 2022 Business Person Of The Year last year.  The 2023 contest is the most popular competition Alignable has hosted in five years, marking a 61% jump in participation over 2022. All told, 3,750 communities across the U.S. and Canada selected 3,976 winners this year (including ties). That’s an increase of 1,400+ additional Local Business People Of The Year compared to 2022.

It's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and there is a charity fashion event happening in Tampa Bay. Mia Williams joins Gayle Guyardo, the host of the nationally syndicated health and wellness show Bloom, to share more about the event. Cancer Life Organizing™ Founder and three-time cancer survivor, Lisa Assetta, joins to share more about her personal story.

Three-time cancer survivor, Lisa Assetta, who was treated at Moffitt, reached out on the Cancer Crushers Facebook page in hopes to buy a face mask that caught her eye. She got that and more by striking up a friendship with Morales. They call each other "Survivor Sisters."

Lisa says she never misses a mammogram or a Rays game. The self-proclaimed super fan underwent surgery, radiation, chemo and immunotherapy at Moffitt Cancer Center. Today, Lisa is cancer free thanks to her incredible support system who helped her through recovery.

Assetta appeared on the WFLA program Daytime to talk about her journey and encourage people to join the Strides movement. Her own experience has enlightened her to the importance of breakthroughs in research.

I was in my final weeks of chemotherapy treatment for my second case of breast cancer. Although it was the second time, it was the first time I had to have chemo. As a child, I had long straight hair, but that grew naturally wavy as an adult and I kept it past shoulder length. It was a pretty shade of brown that I often had colored at the salon every four weeks to cover any grays. I liked my hair and received many compliments on it. It was a big part of my identity!

Routine exams and annual mammograms led to all three of Lisa Assetta’s cancer diagnoses. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, then tonsil cancer in 2018, followed by a breast cancer recurrence in 2020. Assetta underwent surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and immunotherapy at Moffitt Cancer Center.

Lisa Assetta is engaged in her third bout against cancer, and no one would blame her for focusing on herself and her journey. Yet Assetta again will rally her Making Strides Against Breast Cancer team, The Pink Messengers, to raise vital research dollars and serve as an example for others enduring the journey.
